Dear Alex, Yes I have
tried Connaisseur and I must say that it is a pretty close
second. I think it is the best substitute for
Homer that I've tried. Speaking of Homer yet
again, I have a theory on why Homer may of dissapeared
from the myriad of icecreams on offer. I believe
that Homer was made from nonpasteurized milk
and/or milk products and the US government is very
particular about the use of such products as
there are possibilities of health side-effects.
The government (FDA), has banned fresh cheeses (fewer
than 60 days old) that use unpasteurized milk,
many years ago, due to public health concerns.
Cheese made with unpasteurized milk that are more than 60
days old (aged), is still available due to public
uproar about the possible banning of some of
their favourite cheese varities. Anyway, because Homer
was made with unpasteurized milk, I think is why
it has disappeared to. I will try to confirm my
theory by contacting the FDA and see if they can shed
some light. Ill keep you posted.
