Dear Dr. Radhakrishnan.. for many years I am visting the north Brasilian coast where fishermen are exhausting the natural growth of the atlantic coast Langoustines... catches are getting smaller and smaller and as a western philantropist I was wandering if it is not posssible to farm langoustas, like the northy american lobster is needed. Maybe you can advise me why so far I have only seen the farming of shrimps in brasil rather than the more valuable Langousta..
Is it possible to farm langoustas (the lobster type without the cissors)and if yes where do I find inforation.. to help local population with education in this area..

My home country is Lebanon, where the Lobster market is flying high vs. o (zero) production, it is onlyfew import transactions. To be brief, it is an ultimate golden oppurtunity to start a lobster farming business.
I need your help of the following;
- Potentials of growing lobsters in Medeastern atmosphere.
- Chances of doing it Indoor
- Contacts of current technical labors.
- How to obtain a 'Start from scratch' procedures.
- Basic implementation needs (tools, Equipments...)

Thanks for your enquiry about lobster farming. Infact Middle east has good potential as far as lobster farming is concerned. You can do it indoor. I have developed a self cleaning grow out system. Regarding technology, a package of technology is available on a consultancy basis.
Currently fattening of undersized lobsters to commercial size is done. Hatchery technology for lobsters is yet to be perfected. It may take some more time to perfect the hatchery technology. I have no idea of the status of lobster fishery in your country. In UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Middle east countries, good fishery is there. If you can give me some information about the lobsters landed and where maximum quantity is landed I can suggest the methods.

Regarding fattening technique, you need a minimum of 10000sq.ft land near the sea to develop the fattening facility.

Thanks for your mail enquiring about lobster farming. Currently the undersized lobsters which fetch very low price are fattened to commercial
size in a short period. Breeding technology is yet to be perfected. For lobster conservation you have to educate the fishermen not to catch egg bearing lobsters. If caught in the net or trap they should be advised to release back. Currently I am leading a team of experts on an education programme.
