I'm looking for organic lanolin, pesticide free, that I can use on clients that are enviormentally sensitive. I do an old Yugoslavian technique of facials and lanolin works very well, although some people react. Let me know if anyone out there has organic sheep and is making lanolin in such a way that the detergents are removed from the final product.

One of the members of Agriversal is an oils and fats specialist, with a strong experience in cosmetology. He probably knows whether such a product is available and where it can be sourced, but will charge for his services. Would you be interested in hiring the consultant, even for a very limited assignment?

Dear Pascale Debord,

I did'nt get your message until now. Thanks for your reply about organic lanolin. As far as I can tell the designation doesn't exist because he term organic is very tricky. Even if a sheep has been given antibiotics once to protect their health as a lamb, the label organic even for wool is not applicable. the use of pesticides os so rampant and the residues so evident that whatever detergents the wool may have been scoured in is of little consequence. the large wool mills are responsible for much wastewater pollution and most lanolin is actually salvaged from the sludge. It is then 'purified' to various degrees and by various methods that make it desireable for selected markets. Some medical grades claim very high success in wound management and a few reccomend themselves so clean as to be safe for nursing mothers.

It has been an interresting search, however the organic sheep and wool people often sell their wool to craftspeople who like to spin ' in the grease' which means very little lanolin is lost in the washing.

A few cosmetic sources claim to have sources from islands off the coast of New Zealand, and someone wrote to me about possibly a German company might have some. It is hard to tell if the farmers are claiming organic or if the purveyers are claiming a better extraction process.

How would I communicate with your consultant and how much would the fee be? I have written so many people and got a lot of responses. I can't imagine a consultant who would have specialized knowledge about this as so many people have been forthcoming, there are even warnings from Green Peace re polutionof rivers by certain large companies.

In countries like India, where the laws are not so strict about dipping, spraying and pesticides - it's impossible to tell whether these conditions make the lanolin from there benign or even worse.

I think you have a wonderful service at Agriverse and would be interrested in knowing how to access your consultant and what the fees would be.

Thanks for your swift response even if I did'nt get it 'til now. It some how showed up in my Favorites file, aahhh the internet, mysterious companion.

All Best, Sincerely , Susan Harmon

I am looking for a supplier of organic lanolin. Can you help? I am in the UK. I want this for use on myself first and am also contemplating making a body butter using it too, which I will market out, if I can get the recipe right that I am thinking of creating. I have already found a superb supplier or essential oils (organic) to add to the butter, but the lanolin I really need is a tough one to find, it seems. Can anyone help? IB.

Dear susan,
I am in the Uk and would also prefer to use Organic Lanolin in the creams I use. Did you find a source and if so would you mind sharing it with me. Perhaps I can help you with something either now or in the future.
Best wishes, Sally

I'm looking for organic lanolin too, but I'm in the US. Does anyone know of an organic lanolin supplier anywhere in the world? I'm willing to import it!
