We have with us an innovatively designed Garlic
Peeling Machine. The cost of peeling garlic using this machine is one
fifth that of peeling garlic manually and on an average half the cost of
peeling using other Chinese or Taiwanese machines available in the
market. Please copy and paste the link

Our
machine’s USP is its excellent garlic peeling effectiveness as well as
reduced breakage of the cloves. Indian, Asian and some other varieties
are peculiar as they have 3-4 times more cloves in each fruit and the
clove size is much delicate and smaller than the ones grown in Europe,
East Asia. Hence, peeling garlic with smaller cloves would need higher
levels of effectiveness. That has been achieved through this innovative
technology. The other major advantage is that our machine costs 5,200
USD whereas comparable machines available in the international market
costs around 22,000 USD. (* 1 USD=Rs.45)
Many
Indian companies such as Cavin Care, Pandiyan Pickles, Priyam Foods, Eye
Pickles, Patak Foods, Tasty Foods and others are the satisfied users of
this machine and Cavin Care has even placed a repeat order giving a
testimony of its excellent performance. Recently a delegation from
Pakistan came to India, met the innovator as well as some of the clients
and placed an order for one machine, which was shipped to Pakistan in
the last week. Another order from USA is under process.
A brief on our organization:
National Innovation Foundation (NIF) is an
autonomous society supported by Government of India and Indian Institute
of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) - India’s premiere business management
school. NIF’s mandate is to scout technological innovations occurring at
grassroots level and link them with markets. This not only helps in
unearthing new business opportunities for entrepreneurial community but
also, helps in bringing about sustainable economic growth. In short span
of four years, NIF has been able to scout more than 51,000 innovations
and examples of traditional knowledge practices from over 360 districts
of India. The innovations are from sectors like Agriculture & Farm
Implements, Energy, Transport, Engineering Machinery, Herbal Medicines/
Pesticides and Food Processing etc. Out of these, many technologies have
great potential domestically and internationally as well, due to their
ground in genesis that reflects in cost-effectiveness, higher efficiency
and better efficacy.
NIF has been able to
demonstrate ‘tip of the iceberg’- initial success in commercialization.
A total of 14 technologies have been licensed to 22
organizations/individuals including one international technology
licensing to a USA based company and one-off sale of technologies to
several other international clients.
NIF is well
networked with reputed public and private R institutions i.e. Indian
Institute of Technology (IITs), sector specific laboratories of Council
of Science and Industrial Research (CSIR), Agriculture Universities and
leading management institutions.
NIF organized
its Third National Award Function at IIM-A during January 5-7, 2005,
where Hon’ble President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam graced the
occasion to honour some of the high potential innovations from all over
